The season 2004/05 was the 67th regular season of the National League A . The HC Davos was in play-off -Final against ZSC Lions Swiss champion . In the National League B , the EHC Basel was 'B-Champion' and managed in a duel with the NLA table bottom Lausanne HC at his expense, promotion to the top division.

The season was special in that due to the NHL lockout, some NHL players strengthened the teams in Switzerland:

The 12 teams played two double rounds of 22 games each. Then the best eight teams determined the Swiss champions in play-off style. Quarter-finals , semi-finals and the final were each played according to the best-of-seven mode.

The other four teams determined in the play-outs that team that had to play against the champions of National League B to stay in the league.
