The 1964/65 season was the 27th regular staging of the National League A , the highest Swiss league in ice hockey . For the second time in the club's history, SC Bern became Swiss champions, while the Young Sprinters Neuchâtel were relegated to the NLB.

In a common main round, each of the ten teams played in a return match against each group opponent, making the total number of games per team 18. The first in the table became Swiss champions, while the bottom of the table was relegated directly to the second division. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.

SC Bern won the championship four points ahead of the champions of the previous two years, HC Villars, and lost only one of their 18 games this season. The Young Sprinters Neuchâtel had no chance this season and lost 16 of 18 games, whereupon they were relegated to the NLB with only three points as bottom of the table.
