The 1937/1938 season was the first regular staging of the National League A , the highest Swiss league in ice hockey . The HC Davos was Swiss after five games champion, while the New Hockey Club Basel relegation in the Serie A second-rate. The EHC Arosa rose from Serie A to the NLA.

Each of the six teams played once against each group opponent, making the total number of games per team five. Champion became the winner of the main round. The bottom of the table was relegated directly to the second division. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.

HC Davos dominated the league with four wins and one draw with a goal difference of 20: 1. This dominance was mainly due to the so-called "Ni-Sturm" , which was made up of the players "Bibi" Torriani , Hans Cattini and "Pic" Cattini .
