The 1955/56 season was the 18th regular staging of the National League A , the highest Swiss league in ice hockey . For the sixth time in the club's history, the EHC Arosa became Swiss champions, while SC Bern was relegated to the NLB.

mode

As in the previous year, the league was played in a common main round. Each of the eight teams played back and forth against each group opponent, making the total number of games per team 14. The first in the table became Swiss champions, while the bottom of the table had to compete against the best second division team in the relegation to avoid relegation. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.

The tied Grasshopper Club and SC Bern met in a playoff to play off the NLA team, which had to compete against the best second division club in the relegation. The Grasshopper Club beat Bern 5: 2 and the latter had to be relegated.

Relegation

SC Bern met the best second division team EHC Basel-Rotweiss and lost to it in a game with a number of goals with just 9:10, which meant that SC Bern was relegated to the NLB and EHC Basel-Rotweiss took its place in the NLA.
