Donald Ryan
Donald Ryan (* in Trinidad ) is an American pianist specializing in ragtime , jazz and classical music as well as a university professor.
Life
Ryan started playing the piano at the age of three. As a teenager he worked as a radio pianist. He moved to the United States in 1968, earned a bachelor's degree from Oral Roberts University and a master's in music education from the University of Tulsa . He accompanied the singer Simon Estes , with whom he recorded a joint album with Spirituals ( Steal Away ). With the tenor Kelly Ford he presented the album Rhythms & Rhymes (2004).
He currently teaches at Oral Roberts University and plays in a trio in the Tulsa area with bassist Jim Bates and drummer Ken Leverette, with whom he has released several albums. As Ryan & Ryan , he performs as a piano duo with his son, pianist Barron Ryan. Ryan was awarded the Madeyska Prize at the ninth International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1975; In 2006 he was inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame .
