The University of Tulsa (abbreviation: TU ) is a private university in Tulsa , in the US state of Oklahoma , founded by the Presbyterian Church in 1894 , it is now a denominationally neutral university that offers courses up to doctoral degrees.

history

The forerunner of today's university was a Presbyterian Church school for indigenous people in Muskogee, which opened in 1882. In 1894, the name was changed to Henry Kendall College and academic training began. The namesake Henry Kendall was a secretary to the Church. At the beginning of the 20th century, the university faced closure due to financial difficulties. An offer from the Tulsa Commercial Club moved the university administration to move to Tulsa.

Thirty-five students opened the course in 1907, two months before Oklahoma became a US state. Until the construction of the first building in 1908, Kendall Hall , a church, the First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, was used as a lecture building. In 1920 the college merged with Mc Farlin College under its current name.
