Eddi-Rue McClanahan (born February 21, 1934 in Healdton , Oklahoma , † June 3, 2010 in New York City , New York ) was an American actress . She was best known for her role in the television series Golden Girls .

life and work

After graduating from the University of Tulsa , where she studied German and acting, she decided to become an actress. In 1985 she became known through the television series Golden Girls about a flat share of four women in Miami , in which she portrayed Blanche Devereaux, who was mainly characterized by her amorous escapades. After the end of Golden Girls in 1992, she also played in the follow-up series Golden Palace .

She also appeared in various movies, such as Starship Troopers in 1997 and Tango? with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau , 1998 in Rusty - Der bravere Held (Original: Rusty: A Dog's Tale) with Patrick Duffy and Hal Holbrook and 2003 in Fighting Temptations . In 1999 she had a small guest appearance in the crime series Columbo and in 2004 in the US sitcom Whoopi alongside Whoopi Goldberg . Sickness and death

McClanahan was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 1997 and made full recovery. In November 2009 she received a triple bypass . In January 2010 it was announced that she had suffered a stroke in rehabilitation . She died after another stroke on June 3, 2010, at the age of 76 in New York.
