The Girl with the Wonder Woods is an American children's film from 1987 . The fairy tale film was based loosely on The Little Girl with the Sulfur by Hans Christian Andersen . On December 21, 1987 the world premiere ran on American television.

Molly wants to reconcile Haywood with his son again. She says that if he saw his grandson, Joe's son, they would both get closer again. So she makes her way with him to the house of the duttons. But the children initially get lost on the way. Meanwhile, the angry crowd of homeless people gathered in front of Dutton's house to protest against the eviction. When Joe comes out of jail and can't find his son there, he also goes to the Duttons' house. There he can calm the angry crowd at first, but then a drunk takes up a gun to shoot Haywood Dutton. But Molly managed to get to the Duttons' house just in time. When she lights a match, she miraculously prevents a commotion and gets Dutton to settle the argument with his son Joe. Haywood Dutton reconciles with his son and decides not to sell the houses.

The American television film was made into a film with many well-known stars such as Rue McClanahan ( Golden Girls ), John Rhys-Davies ( Lord of the Rings , 2001 to 2003), William Daniels ( Head Physician Dr. Westphall ) and the then eight-year-old Keshia Knight Pulliam, who was born in 1984 as youngest actress ever to be nominated for an Emmy . Keshia Knight Pulliam became known in the role of Rudy on the Bill Cosby Show .
