Patrick G. Duffy (born March 17, 1949 in Townsend , Montana ) is an American television actor and director . He is best known to German-speaking audiences for the role of Bobby Ewing in the US television series Dallas and as The Man from Atlantis .

Career

The portrayal of Mark Harris in the US television series The Man from Atlantis was Duffy's first major role in 1976. A total of twenty episodes of the series had been shot by 1978.

He made his breakthrough in 1978 in the television series Dallas . Here he played in the role of Bobby Ewing, the nice younger brother of villain JR Ewing . He played this character with a one-year hiatus until the series was discontinued in 1991. He was only absent in the 1985/86 season. So that he could get out of the series, the producers let Bobby Ewing run over and die by his jealous ex-sister-in-law. When the ratings fell after his departure , he was brought back to the series and surprisingly appeared in the shower of his wife Pamela in the last episode of the ninth season . His death and all subsequent events in nearly thirty episodes were declared a bad nightmare for Pamela .

On the wave of his popularity, a single Duffys with Mireille Mathieu was created for the German-speaking market in 1983 . Together We're Strong reached number 34 in the German single charts .

After the end of Dallas , he played alongside Suzanne Somers as the head of the Lambert family in the US sitcom A Strong Family . After seven years, the series was discontinued in 1998. In 1998 he worked in the movie Rusty - The Brave Hero with Rue McClanahan and Hal Holbrook as spokesman for the dog Cap . From 2006 to 2011 he was in the US series Rich and Beautiful as the father of Brooke Logan . Duffy can also be seen or heard in various television roles such as Family Guy , Justice League and A Touch of Heaven . In the sequel to the Dallas television series, he slips back into the role of Bobby Ewing after more than twenty years .

Private

Patrick Duffy was married to Carlyn Rosser from 1974 until her death in 2017 and has two sons. He is a practicing Buddhist .

On November 18, 1986, his parents were ambushed in their own bar and murdered by the juvenile perpetrators. They were found guilty of the murders and sentenced to long prison terms. One of the perpetrators has been on parole since December 2007.
