You Again (Original Title: You Again ) is an American comedy from director Andy Fickman from the year 2010 , with Kristen Bell , Sigourney Weaver and Jamie Lee Curtis in the lead roles.

action

Marni is presented as a pimply "spectacles snake" who is teased and bullied by the pretty cheerleader JJ . Years later, Marni has blossomed into a beautiful swan and is a very successful PR agent in Los Angeles. She has just been promoted to vice president of her company's New York branch. Before that, she travels back to her hometown for the wedding of her older brother Will, where, to her horror, she meets Will's fiancee. This is her archenemy JJ, whose real name is Joanna. She's now a nurse and she's always kind.

Nobody in the family wants to believe Marni that behind the nice Joanna is still the evil JJ, who tormented and teased her back then. The up to then self-confident Marni transforms into the shy girl from school days, which is also reflected in her increasingly unattractive appearance.

When Joanna's aunt Ramona turns up, a long-forgotten competition from their high school days breaks out between Gail, Marni's mother, and Ramona. Gail was the most popular student at the time, who succeeded in everything and Ramona was only the second behind Gail. Ramona is now a successful businesswoman and owner of a hotel chain. In her private life, however, unlike Gail, she has had no luck so far.

At a rehearsal of the wedding dinner on the eve of the wedding, Marni not only invites Tim, a former lover of Joanna, but also has a video shown from her high school days in which Joanna portrays herself as the bad JJ of the time. Since Will didn't know anything about Joanna's past, he leaves the company and begins to doubt the planned wedding with Joanna.

Both Gail and Ramona as well as Marni and Joanna finally come to a reconciliation and Marni has to accept that Joanna is no longer the bad JJ from then and that she loves Will more than anything. Finally, Marni also convinces her brother that there is no reason to doubt the planned wedding. When Joanna and Will are injured in the collapse of a tree house, they both come to the hospital and then celebrate their wedding.

Reviews

"Entertaining, generational female comedy in which mother and daughter are confronted with their greatest enemy from high school days."

“Conclusion: Without question, not a great comedy throw. For a nice women's evening with a lot of Prosecco, this harmless fun with its well-humored Hollywood stars is just the thing "

"None of this is funny for a second, especially not entertaining, instead just incredibly sluggish in the face of an action that is creeping forward at a snail's pace ..."

“Despite a good line-up and a story that could be expanded,“ You Again ”is only below average. Unfortunately, the film is not exceptional and cannot stand out from the crowd in any way. "

- filmrecommendation.com

“And again an American comedy, which doesn't leave out a cliché either. Director Andy Fickman (" Kifferwahn ") staged the whole thing in such a predictable and pointless way that the uninspired bickering merely lulls you to sleep, but never entertains you. "

“It's rarely funny with this slapstick; on the contrary, there is an immense nerve factor. [...] The extremely penetrating sound reinforcement with music is particularly negative, as if Fickman suspected that the half-hearted gags and hackneyed dialogues cannot stand on their own. The best thing about the kitschy reconciliation marathon at the end, in which everyone gets along with everyone, is ultimately the fact that the credits are within reach. "

"Cat-war and wedding comedy shaped by misogynous clichés, which can come up with some beautiful performances by sovereign old stars, but overall remains without satirical bite."
