Calabasas ( Spanish pumpkins ) is a city in the southwest of the San Fernando Valley in the US state of California .

It borders among other things on Los Angeles (districts Woodland Hills and West Hills ), Agoura Hills and Hidden Hills . The city is accessed from the Ventura Freeway ( US Highway 101 ).

Calabasas is the first city in the USA to have had an extensive smoking ban since March 18, 2006 , including on the streets, sidewalks and in parks. In 2008 a smoking ban for rented apartments was passed.

The restaurant chain The Cheesecake Factory has its headquarters here.

On January 26, 2020, former basketball professional Kobe Bryant and eight other people died in a helicopter accident in Calabasas.
