Hoobastank is a rock band from the United States that was formed in 1994. She became known through songs like Crawling in the Dark (2002), Running Away (2002) and most notably The Reason (2004).
history
Hoobastank was founded in 1994 in Agoura Hills , Los Angeles County . The name has no special meaning. Hoobastank says the name is just one of those high school insider words that don't mean anything.
Originally the band consisted of six members, Douglas Robb (vocals), Daniel Estrin (guitar), Markku Lappalainen (bass), Chris Hesse (drums) and two saxophonists: Jeremy Wasser and Derek Kwan. The music style was mostly ska . Over the years, Hoobastank have built a reputation for themselves in southern California . So in 1998 they released the album They Sure Don't Make Basketball Shorts Like They Used To… without a record company, back then under the name Hoob u stank . This attracted attention at Island Records , so that Hoobastank signed a record deal with them in 2000.
The music style of Hoobastank changed. They decided to do alternative rock . Therefore, Hoobastank separated from the saxophonists Jeremy Wasser and Derek Kwan. They also changed their name from Hoobustank to Hoobastank.
In 2001, Hoobastank released their first official album, Hoobastank , which went platinum in the US. With the single releases Crawling in the Dark (US # 68) and Running Away (US # 44) they were quite successful. Towards the end of 2003, their second album The Reason was released. The single of the same name was the band's greatest success to date, the single even reached number 2 in the US charts and also made it into the top 20 in Germany (highest position # 15). Other singles like Same Direction and Disappear followed, but could not achieve the same success as The Reason . The album The Reason came to No. 3 in the United States and No. 51 in Germany.
In 2005 Markku Lappalainen left the band. He was replaced by Josh Moreau, who now plays bass.
The cast of Matt McKenzies, a member of the punk rock band Tsunami Bomb , as bass player confused most, as he was only used as a temporary solution during the Velvet Revolver tour in 2005. On a website he emphasized that he would only play during his own band break and VR tour and that only because he had good friends at Hoobastank.
Hoobastank's third official album Every Man for Himself (# 32 Germany) was released in Germany on May 5, 2006. The first single from it is If I Were You , the second Inside of You and the third Born to Lead .
At the beginning of October 2008 the band announced that the new album had now been recorded. The first single from the album is called My Turn and had its radio premiere on October 14th. On the same day the band announced that the new album will be called For (n) ever , which was released on January 27, 2009.
On March 29, 2018, Hoobastank announced the album Push Pull , which was released worldwide on May 25, along with the first single More Beautiful .
