The Los Angeles County is a county in the southern US state of California . With 10,163,507 inhabitants, it is (as of 2017) the most populous county in the United States . On 10,517 square kilometers it comprises 88 self-governing cities and many unincorporated areas. The administrative headquarters are in Los Angeles .
The coastal region of the county is very urban. In the Santa Clarita Valley and especially in the northern half of the county, however, the population density is still low, although the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale there have grown strongly in the past two decades.

The Los Angeles River , the Rio Hondo , the San Gabriel River and the Santa Clara River flow inland . As the mountains stand out from the Rocky Mountains , the Santa Clara Mountains and the San Gabriel Mountains from. The county also includes the islands of San Clemente Island and Santa Catalina Island . Much of the coast borders the Santa Monica Bay . The county is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and, clockwise, by Ventura County , Kern County , San Bernardino County, and Orange County .
history
Los Angeles County was one of the earliest counties in California; it was founded in 1850. Portions of the original county later went to San Bernardino County (1853), Kern County (1866), and Orange County (1899).
Parks and other attractions
The largest park in the county is Griffith Park . The County is also known for the Rose Parade in Pasadena and the annual Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona . There are ten National Historic Landmarks in Los Angeles County . A total of 519 structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .

According to the 2000 census , Los Angeles County had 9,519,338 people, out of 3,133,774 households and 2,137,233 families. The population density was 905 inhabitants per square kilometer. After ethnic groups divided the population is spread out with 48.71% White, 9.78% African American, 0.81% Native American, 11.95% Asian, 0.28% inhabitants from the Pacific island area and 23.53% of other ethnicities ; 4.94% were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 44.56% of the population.
Of the 3,133,774 households, 36.80% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 47.60% were married couples living together, 14.70% were single mothers. 31.80% were not families. 24.60% were single households and 7.10% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.98 and the average family size was 3.61.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 28.00% residents under 18 years of age, 10.30% between 18 and 24 years of age, 32.60% between 25 and 44 years of age, 19.40% between 45 and 64 years of age 9.70% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 97.70 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 95.00 males.
The median income for a household in the 42,189 US dollars , and the median income for a family was 46,452 US dollars. Males had a median income of $ 36,299 and females $ 30,981. The per capita income was $ 20,683. 17.90% percent of the population and 14.40% of families are below the poverty line. 24.20% of those affected were under 18 years of age and 10.50% were 65 years of age or older.
