El Dorado County is a county in the US state of California . The county seat is Placerville . It is located in the north east of the state and has an area of 4631 square kilometers.
history
El Dorado County was one of California's founding counties in 1850. The area was expanded from parts of Amador County in 1854 and parts of Alpine County in 1864 .
In El Dorado County there is a National Historic Landmark , the Coloma settlement . 17 other structures and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places .

According to the 2000 census , El Dorado County had 156,299 people. There were 58,939 households and 43,025 families. The population density was 35 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 89.71% White, 0.52% African American, 1.00% Native American, 2.13% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, and 3.55% other races Groups; 2.96% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 9.32% of the population.
Of the 58,939 households, 34.20% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.10% were married couples living together, 8.90% were single mothers. 27.00% were not families. 20.10% were single households and 7.30% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.04.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.10% residents under 18 years of age, 6.80% between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.80% between 25 and 44 years of age, and 26.90% between 45 and 64 years of age 12.40% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 99.50 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 97.30 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 51,484 , and the median income for a family was $ 60,250. Males had a median income of $ 46,373 versus $ 31,537 for females. The per capita income was $ 25,560. 7.10% percent of the population and 5.00% of families are below the poverty line. 7.60% of these were under 18 years of age and 5.00% were 65 years of age or older.
