The Colusa County is a county in the north of the State of California of the United States . The county seat is in Colusa .

history

The county was founded in 1850, making it one of the earliest counties in California. In 1856 and 1891 parts were given to Tehama County and Glenn County . The name Colusa is derived from a Native American tribe who lived on the west side of the Sacramento River .

6 of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places .

Colusa County had a population of 18,804 as of the 2000 census . There were 6,097 households and 4,578 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 64.29% White, 0.55% African American, 2.33% Native American, 1.21% Asian, 0.39% Pacific Islander, and 26.68% other races Groups; 4.54% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 46.54% of the population.

41.40% of the 6,097 households had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 59.60% were married couples living together, 9.60% were single mothers. 24.90% were not families. 21.50% were single households and 10.10% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.01 and the average family size was 3.51 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 31.60% of residents under 18 years of age, 10.30% between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.90% between 25 and 44 years of age, 19.80% between 45 and 64 years of age 11.40% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 103.40 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 103.80 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 35,062 , and the median income for a family is $ 40,138. Males had a median income of $ 32,210 versus $ 21,521 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,730. 16.10% percent of the population and 13.00% of families are below the poverty line. 19.50% of these were under 18 years of age and 8.20% were 65 years of age or older.
