Lassen County is in northeastern US state of California befindliches County . The county seat is Susanville .
history
Lassen County was formed in 1864 from parts of Plumas County and Shasta Counties . The county's name derives from Lassen Peak , named after Peter Lassen , one of General John C. Frémont 's guides and a famous trapper . He was killed by the Paiute Indians at the foot of the mountain in 1859 .
Six buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places .

Lassen County had a population of 33,828 people as of the 2000 census . There were 9,625 households and 6,776 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 80.81% White, 8.84% African American, 3.26% Native American, 0.74% Asian, 0.43% Pacific Islander, and 3.23% other races Groups; 2.69% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 13.84% of the population.
Of the 9,625 households, 35.90% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 55.80% were married couples living together, 10.30% were single mothers. 29.60% were not families. 24.50% were single households and 9.20% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.08.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 21.80% residents under 18 years of age, 10.80% between 18 and 24 years of age, 36.90% between 25 and 44 years of age, 21.40% between 45 and 64 years of age 9.00% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 168.80 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 192.20 males.
The median income for a household in the 36,310 USD , and the median income for a family was 43,398 USD. Males had a median income of $ 37,333 versus $ 26,561 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,749. 14.00% percent of the population and 11.10% of families are below the poverty line. 16.10% of these were under 18 years of age and 7.80% were 65 years of age or older.
