history

Sacramento County was one of California's earliest counties and was founded in 1850. The county was named after the Sacramento River by Captain Gabriel Moraga . The river was named after the " sacrament ".

The area comprises 53 buildings and was recorded on May 6, 1971 by the National Register of Historic Places as a historic monument with the number 71000174, and registered in the National Historic Landmark . Sacramento County had a population of 1,223,499 as of the 2000 census . There were 453,602 households and 297,562 families. The population density was 489 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 64.02% White, 9.96% African American, 1.09% Native American, 11.03% Asian, 0.59% Pacific Islander, and 7.48% other races Groups; 5.84% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 16.01% of the population.

Of the 453,602 households, 33.70% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 46.40% were married couples living together, 14.10% were single mothers. 34.40% were not families. 26.70% are single households and 8.00% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.24.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.60% of residents under 18 years of age, 9.50% between 18 and 24 years of age, 31.00% between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.90% between 45 and 64 years of age 11.10% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 95.90 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 92.50 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 43,816 , and the median income for a family is $ 50,717. Males had a median income of $ 39,482 versus $ 31,569 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,142. 14.10% of the population and 10.30% of families are below the poverty line. 20.20% of them were under 18 years of age and 6.60% were 65 years of age or older.
