geography

Geographical location

The municipality is located between Neuerburg and Arzfeld on a plateau visible from afar in the southern Eifel , about 15 km east of the state border with Luxembourg . The districts of Ringhuscheid, Bellscheid and Krautscheid belong to the local community of Krautscheid.

Neighboring communities

Krautscheid borders Lauperath in the north, Niederpierscheid and Oberpierscheid in the east , Berkoth and Uppershausen in the south, and Arzfeld in the north-west.

history

The first secure mention of the place under the name "Kruisscheit" comes from a purchase contract from the year 1231. In this a Walterus sacerdos de Kruisscheit (priest Walter zu Krautscheid) is named as a witness.

Until 1794, the three localities Bellscheid, Krautscheid and Ringhuscheid, which today belong to the municipality, belonged to the Luxembourgish lordship of Neuerburg . Krautscheid was the main place of a dairy farm , this administrative and judicial district also included the villages of Bellscheid, Hölzchen , Mauel , Niederpierscheid , Oberpierscheid , Ringhuscheid, the Windhausen and Wehrhausen farms and part of Arzfeld .

During the French administration (1795-1814) the three localities were administered by the Mairie Ringhuscheid, which belonged to the canton of Arzfeld in the department of forests .

Under the Prussian administration (after 1815) the place belonged first to the mayor's office Ringhuscheid in the district of Prüm , from 1854 to the mayor's office of Waxweiler .

Today's community was formed on January 1, 1973 from the dissolved communities of Krautscheid (then 97 inhabitants), Bellscheid (46) and Ringhuscheid (159).

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Krautscheid
Blazon : "Divided by silver over red, above a black carrion crow ready to fly, below a silver tree stump sprouting into three linden leaves"
Reasons for the coat of arms: The coat of arms shows a "talking coat of arms". The colors are silver and red. In the upper field there is a black soaring crow with outstretched wings, in the lower field a silver tree stump, from which new life sprouts in the form of three new stems each ending in a linden leaf. The tree stump symbolizes the clearing of the forest, whereby the three places could arise.
