Lauperath is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Arzfeld .

location

The scattered settlement is located in the west of the Eifel , only a few kilometers east of the state borders with Luxembourg and Belgium . It is surrounded by fields on a plateau in the Islek countryside . The local community consists of two larger and four smaller settlements: Lauperath and Scheidchen as well as the Kop farm group and the individual farms Berscheiderhof, Scheuerbaum and Reuschenhof.

With 63.9%, more than half of the municipal area is used for agriculture, 27.1% are forest (as of 2018).

Neighboring communities are Manderscheid in the north, Waxweiler in the east, Krautscheid in the south and Arzfeld in the west.

The annual precipitation is 1049 mm. The rainfall is high. They are in the upper quarter of the values ​​recorded in Germany. history

The first documentary mention as "Lupenroide" comes from a deed of donation from the bishop and abbot Albero von Prüm in 1136. The place was founded during a high medieval clearing phase, probably in the 11th or 12th century.

Until the end of the 16th century, Lauperath was under the influence of the Prüm Abbey . At the beginning of the 17th century it was administered by the Manderscheid dairy and was part of the Luxembourgish rule of Neuerburg , and thus in the Spanish Netherlands . In 1714 the Duchy of Luxembourg , including Lauperath, went to the Austrian Netherlands , to which it belonged until 1794. Under French administration (1795-1814) the village was in the canton of Arzfeld in the department of forests , in 1815 it went to Prussia and was assigned to the district of Prüm in the administrative district of Trier .

Culture and sights

One of the buildings worth seeing is the chapel of the Holy Three Virgins as one of the few choir tower churches in the Eifel from the 15th century. Every year on May 22nd, the Chapel Festival is celebrated, the patron saint of the Three Virgins on the Sunday after March 10th.

Economy and Infrastructure

Today Lauperath is a residential community shaped by agriculture and tourism . Since 1971, when 25 farms were counted, the utilized agricultural area has increased from 419 ha to 560 ha (2010), which were managed by eleven farms.

The next junction is Waxweiler / Schönecken on federal highway 60 and is about ten kilometers east of the town.

The public facilities include a village community center and a children's playground .
