Roscheid is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Arzfeld .

geography

The municipality is located in Islek in the southern Eifel , about 5 km east of the state border with Luxembourg . The Thomashaus district belongs to Roscheid.

Neighboring communities are Harspelt in the north, Herzfeld in the east, Dahnen in the southwest, Eschfeld in the south and Sevenig (Our) in the west.

77.2% of the municipal area is used for agriculture, 18.8% consists of forest.

history

Roscheid has its origins in the medieval clearing phases , which is indicated by the place-name ending "-scheid". The place was first mentioned in a document as "Roischeit" in 1451. The manor was held by the Prüm Abbey .

Until 1794 the place belonged to the dairy Eschfeld - Arzfeld in the Dasburg rule , which was part of the Duchy of Luxembourg . After the annexation of the Austrian Netherlands , to which the Duchy of Luxembourg belonged, by French revolutionary troops , the municipality of Roscheid was assigned to the canton of Arzfeld in the department of forests in 1795. Due to the resolutions at the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the former Luxembourg area east of the Sauer and Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia . Under the Prussian administration, Roscheid came to the newly established district of Prüm in the administrative district of Trier in 1816 and was administered by the mayor's office of Eschfeld . In 1843 Roscheid consisted of 23 houses with 158 inhabitants. All residents were Catholic, they were parish in Eschfeld. In terms of school, too, Roscheid belonged to Eschfeld.

Towards the end of the Second World War , the place was in the main battle line of the West Wall and was 80% destroyed.
