history

The place was first mentioned in a document at the end of the 15th century.

Until the end of the 18th century, Sengerich belonged to the Binscheid dairy in the Luxembourgish domination of Dasburg .

After taking possession of the Austrian Netherlands (1794), to which the Duchy of Luxembourg belonged, and taking over the French administrative structures (1795), Sengerich belonged to Mairie Eschfeld in the canton of Arzfeld , which was administratively assigned to the Arrondissement of Bitburg in the department of Forests .

Due to the resolutions at the Congress of Vienna , the region came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 . Under the Prussian administration Sengerich belonged from 1816 to the mayor's office of Eschfeld in the newly established district of Prüm in the administrative district of Trier . From 1936 the community belonged to the Daleiden-Leidenborn office and from 1970 to the Arzfeld association.

In 1857 a clay jug was found in Sengerich with 57 gold, about 700 silver coins and 70 hellers, which belonged to the end of the 16th century.

coat of arms

Sengerich coat of arms
Blazon : "Above a green three-mountain of red and silver (white) diagonally divided, in front a blue jug filled with gold coins, behind a slanting silver (white) sword."
Justification for the coat of arms: Red and silver are the colors of the Counts of Vianden , who had owned the Luxembourgish rule of Dasburg and thus Olmscheid since the 14th century . The Dreiberg symbolizes the ridge of the community. The jug is reminiscent of a gold find that was discovered in 1857 while tilling a field. The sword symbolizes the Sengerich chapel, whose patron saint is St. Donatus .

The coat of arms designed by Christian Gredner in collaboration with citizens of Sengerich was approved on December 21, 2011 by the local authority of the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm.

Worth seeing
