The Amador County is a county in the US state of California . The county seat is Jackson . The county is located in the Sierra Nevada and is also known for its wine (→ see the protected designations of origin California Shenandoah Valley AVA , Fiddletown AVA , Sierra Foothills AVA ).
history
The county was formed in 1854 from parts of Calaveras County and El Dorado County . José Maria Amador gave it the name.

As of the 2000 census , Amador County had 35,100 people. There were 12,759 households and 9071 families. The population density was 23 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 85.79% White, 3.87% African American, 1.78% Native American, 1.00% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, and 5.04% other races Groups; 2.41% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 8.91% of the population.
Of the 12,759 households, 26.20% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 58.90% were married couples living together, 8.70% were single mothers. 28.90% were not families. 23.90% were single households and 11.30% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.81 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 20.60% of residents under the age of 18, 6.90% between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.20% between 25 and 44 years of age, and 28.30% between 45 and 64 years of age 18.00% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 122.50 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 123.40 males.
The median income for a household in the 42,280 USD , and the median income for a family was 51,226 USD. Males had a median income of $ 39,697 versus $ 28,850 for females. The per capita income was $ 22,412. 9.20% percent of the population and 6.10% of families are below the poverty line. 13.10% of them were under 18 years of age and 5.40% were 65 years of age or older.
