Fiddletown AVA (recognized since October 4, 1983) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area is located in the administrative area of Amador County , approximately 60 kilometers southeast of the city of Sacramento . Grapevines were planted during the California gold rush in the early 1850s. The majority of the planted vineyards are in the south and west of the growing area. The vineyards are at an altitude of 450 to 750 meters above sea level. Almost 20% of the wine produced in Amador County comes from Fiddletown AVA.

geography

climate

Since the area is about 160 kilometers from the coast of the Pacific , it is often very hot in midsummer. The low humidity and the wind, which brings cool air in from the San Francisco Bay at night , make the stay bearable and viticulture at this altitude possible. There is a Mediterranean climate with mild, mostly humid winter and warm dry summer.
