Sierra Foothills AVA (recognized since November 18, 1987) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area lies at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains . Grapevines were planted during the California gold rush in the early 1850s. The area has more than 100 mostly family-run wine-growing businesses.

The Sierra Foothills AVA spans six administrative areas: Amador County , Calaveras County , El Dorado County , Mariposa County , Nevada County, and Yuba County . With an inscribed area of ​​10,521 km², this designation of origin is one of the largest American Viticultural Areas in California. The vineyards are at an altitude of 450 to 900 m above sea level.
