North Yuba AVA (recognized since July 23, 1985) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area is located in the Yuba County administrative area , northwest of Nevada City . The wine-growing region lies at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains . The soil is predominantly of volcanic origin and the rock formations are mostly made of plutonic intrusive bodies . Renaissance Vineyard and Winery is the largest winery in the region with 18 hectares of vineyards. The Mediterranean grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon , Syrah , Grenache , Viognier and Roussanne are predominantly found on terraced grounds .

climate

Since the area is about 150 kilometers from the coast of the Pacific , it is often very hot in midsummer. The low humidity and the wind, which brings cool air in from the San Francisco Bay at night , make the stay bearable and viticulture at this altitude possible. There is a Mediterranean climate with mild, mostly humid winter and warm dry summer.
