Ione is a city in Amador County in the Sierra Nevada and is located in the state of California in the United States .
geography
The city is located approximately 20 kilometers southeast of Rancho Murieta and 90 kilometers southeast of Sacramento , also 70 kilometers northeast of Stockton and 150 kilometers northeast of San Francisco . The California State Route 124 and California State Route 104 pass through the city.
history
The name of the city is attributed to Thomas Brown. Previously, she was under the name Bedbug and Freezeout of prospectors during the time of the California Gold Rush known (California Gold Rush). At that time the city was a transshipment point for various goods. With gold found nearby , the city grew rapidly. A train station was also created. The Preston School of Industry , better known as "Preston Castle", was built between 1890 and 1894 and was used at times as a rehabilitation school for delinquent youth. Renovation work is currently being carried out on it. Famous jazz pianist Dave Brubeck lived in Ione in 1998 and dedicated a video to Preston Castle called A Castle's Song , the proceeds of which will be used for restoration.
