Top site

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Topsite is a term from the warez scene and describes FTP servers that are used by release groups to distribute and store warez releases. Top sites are usually connected to the Internet with connections ranging from 100 Mbit / s to several Gbit / s . Storage space in the terabyte range is the rule.

overview

safety

Unlike their predecessors in the BBS scene, top sites are not advertised. With the increasing number of police operations, there was a need to increase security.

partner

A warez group can gain access to a top site as a partner by adding the site to its initial publication points. This is usually done in exchange for permissions to download files for their members. A warez group is typically an affiliate of several top sites in order to increase the efficiency of the distribution of their releases to other top sites (which are not affiliates ). Topsites can host any number of partners and greet / advertise them - as an expression of quality - in the message that a user receives when logging in.

Credit system

Most top sites use a credit system or ratio system . Everyone who uploads something gets credit e.g. B. in the ratio 1: 3 (ratio), in order to make downloads from the site.

Couriers / Traders

Courier describes a certain kind of a Topsite-user that their access (even to Access ) on the Topsites thereby deserve to upload new releases and work through so-called. Requests by other users. When a courier has gained access to a top site, he usually first has to survive a test period, during which a certain amount has to be uploaded in a short time. Couriers often do their job for respect, points, access to other top sites, and fun, and are often organized into separate groups that provide support through friendship and camaraderie. The release groups often have a few couriers among themselves to speed up the distribution of their releases, although many groups now use scripts to prevent security gaps.
