El Dorado Hills is a census-designated place in El Dorado County in the state of California in the United States . In 2017 the population was estimated at 45,104.

geography

The village is located in western El Dorado County in the hilly foothills of the Sierra Nevada , about 40 km (25 miles ) northeast of the California capital Sacramento and 20 km southwest of Coloma , where the California gold rush was triggered in 1848 . It is bordered to the west by the city of Folsom in Sacramento County and to the east by the census-designated place Cameron Park . In the north El Dorado Hills borders on Folsom Lake and the southern part is traversed by US Highway 50 .

In the 2000 census , 18,016 inhabitants were counted, in the 2010 census there were already 42,108. The increase depended on both an increase in population and an expansion of the territorial boundaries. 2010, there were 15,277 households with an average income of 126,520  dollars (estimate for 2016: $ 130,997). That made the median income about twice the California average ($ 67,739).

The median age in 2010 was 42.9 years and 96.7 percent had at least a high school degree. The population in 2016 was 73.1% white and 12.2% people with an Asian background. 9% were Hispanic , 2% African American, and 0.7% percent were Native American . 2.8% stated several races.
