Bell is a city in Los Angeles County in the US state of California . It has about 38,100 inhabitants (as of 2004). The city is located at the geographical coordinates of 33.98 ° north, 118.18 ° west. The urban area has a size of 6.8 km².
history
Lugo family
Until 1860, the urban area of Bell was part of the 121 km² "Rancho San Antonio" of the Spanish settler Don Antonio Maria Lugo. Don Antonio Maria Lugo was a Spanish aristocrat and former soldier whose father, Francisco Lugo , came to California in 1771. From 1860 the huge ranch was divided into several small ones and a settlement developed from which the town of Bell developed over the next few decades.
Bell family
James George Bell and his family were pioneers and gave the city its name. The Bell family then bought a 1.4 km² piece of land. They lived in the townhouse on 4th Breed Street until they moved in 1876. In 1898 the city was named Bell.
