Paramount is a city in Los Angeles County in the US state of California , United States . Paramount had 55,266 residents in 2000.

geography

Paramount is in the Greater Los Angeles area and is bordered by Compton to the west, South Gate and Downey to the north, Bellflower to the east, and Long Beach to the south. The city is located at 21 meters about 30 kilometers from downtown Los Angeles . In the west of the city runs the Los Angeles River , on the banks of which the Park Banana Park lies. The urban area has a size of 12.5 km².

history

Paramount was officially founded on January 30, 1957 from the parishes of Hynes and Clearwater to prevent incorporation by Long Beach , Bellflower or South Gate .

The name Paramount is taken from the north-south axis of the same name, Paramount Boulevard.

Paramount was known for its large dairy herd until the late 1970s. The last dairy closed in 1977, as the skyrocketing land prices in the Los Angeles area made livestock and thus production too expensive.
