Rose Parade
The Rose Parade ( German Rose Parade ; actually Tournament of Roses Parade ) is the largest parade in California . It takes place annually on January 1st and is attended by more than a million viewers, and it is also broadcast live on television.
It was founded on January 1, 1890, and held for the first time in Pasadena , eight miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles . Since January 1, 1923, the parade has been followed by the so-called Rose Bowl college football game. The relocation of the Rose Bowl to January 4th in 2002 and 2006 because of the BCS National Championship Game led to not inconsiderable protests.
