history
The place was officially registered on April 24, 1956 as the "City of Dairy Valley" with 3,439 inhabitants and was at that time purely agricultural, with primarily milk and poultry production being operated (dairy: dairy) . In the 1960s agriculture became increasingly unprofitable and in 1965 it was decided that residential buildings could also be built on plots of less than 5 acres in order to achieve a denser and less agricultural settlement.
On January 10, 1967, the place was renamed Cerritos. The name goes back to the Rancho Los Cerritos estate, which existed nearby before the state of California was founded . Further steps were taken towards a growth of the city accompanied by business and industrial settlements. Half of the urban area was planned as a residential area. In fact, the population grew significantly as a result; after 15,856 inhabitants in 1970 Cerritos had 37,738 inhabitants in 1972.
