University Park (Los Angeles)

University Park is a district of the US metropolis of Los Angeles . The neighborhood is in South Los Angeles . The campus of the University of Southern California is located in the district .

location

The neighborhood is bounded to the north by the Santa Monica Freeway , behind which Pico-Union is. To the east, the border runs along the Harbor Freeway to Downtown Los Angeles and Historic South Central . To the south, the district is bordered by Exposition Boulevard and Exposition Park . To the west of University Park is Adams-Normandy , the border here along Vermont Avenue. The area is 1.17 square miles (about 3 square kilometers ). The University of Southern California (USC) occupies the area south of Jefferson Boulevard. The Jack H. Skirball Campus of the Hebrew Union College is located in the immediate vicinity of USC in University Park, and Mount St. Mary's University has had a campus in the north since 1925.

The US population of 23,596 people lived here in University Park, according to the 2000 census . According to estimates by the Los Angeles City Planning Department, there were 25,181 people in 2008. 47.7% of the residents were Latinos , 25.5% were white, 16.1% Asian American , and 7% African American .

The development of today's University Park began in 1872 with the creation of the Agricultural Park, which would later become the Exposition Park in the south. The University of Southern California began operations in 1880. The existence of these institutions led to the area being connected to the Los Angeles tram network. As the city grew rapidly in the 1890s, the University Park area began to be developed and developed. In 1910 the country was completely divided.
