Vanessa Amorosi
Vanessa Amorosi (born August 8, 1981 in Melbourne , Victoria ) is an Australian singer-songwriter .
life and career
With the support of her parents, who are both professional singers, Vanessa Amorosi began with jazz and classical ballet at the age of four . At the age of twelve she made her first small appearances in shopping centers and restaurants. Jack Strom noticed her in a Russian restaurant while she was singing there. Together with his partner Mark Holden he signed her (MarJac Productions).
In July 1999, Amorosi released her first single Have A Look in Australia , which went gold in just a few weeks . At the end of the year, Absolutely Everybody was the second release from the later successful album The Power . This song became one of the most successful pieces by Australian artists. After their debut album was released in the spring of 2000, it already reached platinum (four times in total) in just three weeks and was sold almost 70,000 times. Her third single Shine also went gold and platinum in a short time. This was followed by a tour of Australia with Savage Garden , several awards and the invitation to appear in front of an audience of billions at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney during the opening and closing ceremonies.
In September 2000 Amorosi released their first single in Europe . With Absolutely Everybody she reached the top ten in the charts of many countries. Her album The Power went gold in Germany , and in 2001 she received the Comet music award for best international newcomer , presented by the music broadcaster VIVA . Her first tour of Europe and Southeast Asia was also a huge success. In 2001 she released her second album, Turn To Me, in her homeland , which seamlessly continued the success of its predecessor. In Germany, an alternative album was released with Change . Although she was still successful with the singles One Thing Leads To Another and True To Yourself , the sales figures for the first hits did not reach them. Nevertheless, she remained a star in Australia: Because of her longstanding commitment to disadvantaged children, she was nominated for the Australian Of The Year Award in 2003 . A year later she got her first television role as a jury member on an Australian casting show. In Europe she only gave a few concerts and television appearances. Her fourth album Somewhere In The Real World was released in Australia on May 24, 2008 . On May 4, 2009 the single The Letter was released , which she recorded in a duet with the American band Hoobastank . In 2012 the contract with Universal Music Australia was terminated after the album V, which was planned for November 2011, was withdrawn at short notice.
