André Niklaus (born August 30, 1981 in Berlin ) is a former German decathlete .

Career

Niklaus was born the son of the fencer Mandy Niklaus . After a fourth place at the Junior European Championships in 1999, he won bronze at the Junior World Championships in 2000 in Santiago de Chile . With 7712 points in the decathlon , he was one place ahead of Dmitri Karpov . A year later, as the winner of the U23 European Championships in Amsterdam in 2001, he exceeded the 8000 point mark for the first time with 8042 points. In 2003 Niklaus defended his 2001 title in Bydgoszcz with 7983 points.

At the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis , he finished eighth with 8020 points.

In 2005 Niklaus was able to increase to 8074 points at the Mösle all- around meeting in Götzis. He won the German World Cup qualification in Ratingen with 8193 points. At the World Championships in Helsinki , he then finished fourth with 8316 points, 69 points behind third-placed Attila Zsivóczky .

In the 2006 indoor season, Niklaus took second place in the invitation competition in Tallinn with 6067 points behind Roman Šebrle with the same number of points . Five weeks later, Niklaus rose to 6192 points at the World Indoor Championships in Moscow and became world champion in the heptathlon ahead of Bryan Clay with 6187 points and Roman Šebrle with 6161 points. In the individual disciplines he achieved the following performances: 60 meters 7.06 s, long jump 7.64 m, shot put 14.41 m, high jump 2.07 m, 60 meter hurdles 8.14 s, pole vault 5.30 m, 1000 meters 2 : 47.80 min. This puts him in second place in the German best list behind Frank Busemann , who reached 6291 in Tallinn in 2002.

After finishing fourth in Götzis in 2006 with 8239 points, he injured himself and had to break off the season. A year later he set up a new personal best as fifth from Götzis with 8340 points, improved himself again at the World Championships in Osaka and was fifth with 8371 points.

Niklaus won with 7536 points on 27./28. August 2011 in Vaterstetten his first national single all-around title after he had won gold in Vaterstetten in 2004 together with Steffen Landgraf and Marian Geisler.

André Niklaus had a competition weight of 82 kg with a height of 1.90 m. He started for LG Nike Berlin and trained with Rainer Pottel . He ended his career in June 2013.
