The 14th World Indoor Athletics Championships took place from March 9th to 11th, 2012 in the Turkish city of Istanbul .

Istanbul was commissioned by the World Athletics Federation (IAAF) to host the event in November 2007 . 616 athletes (349 men and 334 women) from 172 countries announced their participation. 17 athletes (8 women and 9 men) were nominated by the DLV .
