Reda Abdalaati Iguider (also Abdelaati Iguider ; Arabic عبد العاطي إيكدير, DMG ʿAbd al-ʿĀṭī Īkidīr ; * March 25, 1987 in Errachidia ) is a Moroccan middle -distance runner who specializes in the 1,500 meter distance .

Athletic career

Abdalaati Iguider gained his first international experience in 2004 at the Junior World Championships in Grosseto , where he won the gold medal over 1500 meters with a new championship record of 3: 35.53 minutes. He then won the Arab Youth Championships in Rabat in the 800-meter run in 1: 49.93 min and over 1500 meters in 3: 49.14 min. At the 2005 World Cross Country Championships in Saint-Étienne , he finished 30th in the U20 rankings after 25:28 min. He then finished fourth over 1500 meters at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Mecca in 3: 48.49 minutes. In 2006 he again took part in the Junior World Championships in Beijing , but this time surprisingly had to admit defeat with 3: 40.73 minutes. The following year he qualified for the first time for the World Championships in Osaka , but retired there with 3: 43.25 minutes in the first round. In 2008 he took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing for the first time and reached the final there , in which he finished fifth with 3: 34.66 minutes.

In 2009 Iguider won the bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara in 3: 38.66 minutes behind the Algiers Antar Zerguelaïne and his compatriot Mohamed Moustaoui . He then reached the finals at the World Championships in Berlin , where he finished eleventh in 3: 38.35 minutes. In 2010 he took part in the World Indoor Championships in Doha for the first time and won the silver medal there in 3: 41.96 minutes behind the Ethiopian Deresse Mekonnen . In the following year he finished fifth at the World Championships in Daegu with 3: 36.56 minutes in the final and in 2012 he won the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul in 3: 45.21 minutes. He then reached the final at the Olympic Games in London over 1500 meters and won the bronze medal there in 3: 35.13 minutes behind the Algerian Taoufik Makhloufi and Leonel Manzano from the United States. He also took part in the 5000-meter run , where he also made it to the final , where he finished sixth with 13: 44.19 minutes.

In 2013 he reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Moscow and was eliminated there with 3: 44.36 minutes. The following year he won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot in 3: 38.21 minutes behind Ayanleh Souleiman from Djibouti and the Ethiopian Aman Wote . He also reached the final at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, where he won the bronze medal in 3: 34.67 minutes behind the two Kenyans Asbel Kiprop and Elijah Manangoi . 2016 he arrived at the World Indoor Championships in Portland in 3000 Meters in 7: 58.04 min to fourth place and at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro he reached over 1,500 meters for the third time into the finals , where he came in fifth with 3: 50.58 min.

In 2017 he was eliminated at the World Championships in London up to the semi-finals , where he was eliminated with 3: 40.76 minutes. The following year he won the bronze medal over 1500 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 3: 58.43 minutes behind the Ethiopian Samuel Tefera and Marcin Lewandowski from Poland. He then finished fifth at the African Championships in Asaba in 3: 39.20 minutes. At the 2019 World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus , he won the silver medal in the mixed relay behind the team from Ethiopia in 26:22 min together with Soufiane el-Bakkali , Kaoutar Farkoussi and Rababe Arafi . He then took part in the Africa Games in Rabat for the first time and finished fourth there in 3: 38.59 minutes. At the World Championships in Doha he reached the semi-finals again , in which he was eliminated with 3: 42.23 min.
