The 15th World Indoor Athletics Championships in 2014 were awarded to the Polish city ​​of Sopot on the Baltic Sea . This was announced on November 11, 2011 at the IAAF World Athletics Gala in Monte Carlo . Sopot was the only remaining applicant for the event after the Croatian capital Zagreb refused to apply for financial reasons.

The venue was the Ergo Arena , which opened in 2010 and stands directly on the city limits between the two tri-cities Sopot and Gdansk .
