Abeba Aregawi Gebretsadik (born July 5, 1990 in Adigrat , Tigray region , Ethiopia ) is a middle-distance runner who started for her home country until 2012 and has been competing for Sweden since the end of 2012 . She has specialized in the 1500 meter course and has a personal best of 3: 56.54 minutes.

Athletic career

Ababa began her career as an 800-meter runner and won the Ethiopian national title in this discipline in 2009 ahead of the three-time champion Mestawet Tadesse .

In the 2010 season she switched to the 1500 meter distance. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , she finished fourth in the 1,500 meter run with 4:11:03 minutes. Her greatest success over this distance and in her entire career was winning the 2013 World Championships in Moscow . In 2014 it was also impossible to conquer at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot over 1500 meters. At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , she finished sixth after 4: 12.16 minutes.

On February 29, 2016, Aregawi was suspended due to a positive doping test. The substance meldonium , which has been banned since January 1, 2016, was also detected in the B sample .
