Doina Melinte , née Doina Beşliu , (born December 27, 1956 in Hudeşti , Botoşani district ) is a former Romanian middle-distance runner and Olympic champion .

At the European Indoor Championships in 1985 , 1988 and 1990 , she won the gold medal over 1500 meters . In 1990 she set a European record of 4: 00.27 minutes, and on the same day she also set a European record in the mile run of 4: 17.14 minutes .

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , she won the gold medal in the 800-meter run ahead of Kim Gallagher (USA) and her compatriot Fița Lovin, and the silver medal in the 1500-meter run behind Gabriella Dorio (ITA) and ahead of her compatriot Maricica Puică .
