Kutre Dulecha (born August 22, 1978 in the province of Sidamo ) is a former Ethiopian athlete who was particularly successful in middle-distance running . She also appeared internationally in cross-country skiing and as a marathon runner .

Life

She took part in the athletics world championships for the first time at the age of sixteen. In 1995 in Gothenburg she competed in the 800 and 1500 meters , but missed the finals on both courses. A short time later she won the Africa Games in Harare over 1500 meters and won the bronze medal over 800 meters. In 1996 she became junior world champion in the 1,500 meter run. She also took part in the Olympic Games in Atlanta . In the 1500-meter run she reached the semifinals, in the 800-meter run she was eliminated after the first lap.

In 1997 she finished ninth over 1500 meters at both the indoor world championships in Paris and the outdoor world championships in Athens . In addition, this season she set a junior world record in the 1,500-meter run in Hengelo with a time of 4: 05.67 minutes . The following year she won the bronze medal on the short distance at the Cross Country World Championships in Marrakech .

At the 1999 World Championships in Seville , she finished third in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4: 00.96 minutes. Shortly thereafter, she defended her title at the Africa Games in Johannesburg over the same distance .

2000 Dulecha was in Vilamoura cross country world champion on the short distance. In the same year she finished fourth in the 1500 meter run at the Olympic Games in Sydney with a time of 4: 05.33 min and missed a medal by only six hundredths of a second. At the end of the IAAF Grand Prix Final in Doha, like two years earlier in Moscow, she finished second over 1500 meters.
