Botoșani County
Botoșani [ botoˈʃanʲ ] ( ) is a Romanian district (Județ) in the Moldova region with the district capital Botoșani . Its common abbreviation and license plate is BT.
The botoşani county borders in the north and in the east to the Republic of Moldova , in the south of the Iaşi County , in the southwest and in the west to the Suceava county and in the Northwest as well as in the north to the Ukraine .
Demographics
In 2002 the district had 452,834 inhabitants and a population density of 91 inhabitants per km². 166,651 inhabitants (37%) belong to the urban population, 287,372 people (63%) live in villages.
In 2011, the Botoșani district had 412,626 inhabitants with a population density of around 82 inhabitants per km².

geography
The district has a total area of 4986 km²; thus it occupies around 2.1% of the country's area. Located in north-eastern Romania, the district is in the north of the historical region of the Principality of Moldova (Principatul Moldovei) , in the northern part of western Moldova . In the north and east the district borders on the River Prut (Prut) , in the west on the Sereth (Siret) . The Jijia and Başeu are also among the larger rivers in the district . The landscape of the district drops from the west ( 587 m at Dealu Mare ) in an easterly direction ( 54 m at the Pruth). The largest lake in the district is the Stânca-Costeşti reservoir on the Prut in the area of Ștefăneşti .
