Hunedoara County
The Hunedoara district is a Romanian district ( Județ ) in the Transylvania region with the district capital Deva . Its common abbreviation and license plate are HD.
The district of Hunedoara borders in the north and east on the district of Alba , in the southeast on the district Vâlcea , in the south on the district Gorj , in the west on the districts Caraş-Severin , Timiş and Arad , the latter also in the north-west .
Demographics
In 2011 the district of Hunedoara had 418,565 inhabitants, thus a population density of 59 inhabitants per km².
geography
The district has a total area of 7063 km², which corresponds to 2.96% of the area of Romania. In the south-west of Transylvania, in the historical region of Hunyad County (Eisenmarkt County) and north of historical Oltenia, the so-called Little Wallachia , the southern part of the district is in the Retezat and Șureanu mountains ; both are part of the Transylvanian Alps . The center of the district is in the valley of the Mureș (Mieresch) , the northern part in the Transylvanian Ore Mountains .
The largest rivers in the district are the Mureș, which flows in an east-west direction, its tributaries Strei , Orăștie and Cerna and in the south the Jiu (Schil) .
