Galați district
Galați [ galˈatsʲ ] ( ) is a Romanian district ( Județ ) in the West Moldau region with the district capital Galați . Its common abbreviation and the license plate are GL.
The Galaţi County borders in the north to the Vaslui county , in the east of the Republic of Moldova , in the south of the circles Braila and Tulcea , in the west and north-west of the county of Vrancea .

In 2011 the Galați district had 536,167 inhabitants, thus a population density of 120 inhabitants per km².

The district has a total area of 4466 km²; this corresponds to 1.87% of the area of Romania. Located in eastern Romania, the district is in the south of the historical region of the Principality of Moldova (Principatul Moldovei) east of the Eastern Carpathians . From the area of the village of Vădeni in the north to Galați in the south of the district, the river Prut (Prut) delimits the east of the district. In the south the district is bounded by the Danube and Sereth (Siret) rivers. The landscape of the district slopes from the north ( 350 m ) to the south (5–10 m above sea level).
