Târgu Bujor is a town in the Galați district in western Moldova in Romania .
location
Târgu Bujor is located in the southern part of the Moldau plateau ( Podișul Moldovei ) at the inflow of a stream into the Chineja river . The district capital Galați is about 50 km south.
history
The oldest archaeological finds date from around 12,000 BC. Chr. Târgu Bujor was first mentioned in a document in 1775. In 1844 the place was raised to the market. In 1968 the city was appointed.
The most important branches of industry are agriculture (especially viticulture) and food processing.
population
In the 2002 census, 7486 people were registered, including around 5100 in the city proper, the rest in the two incorporated towns. 7265 were Romanians and 221 Roma . In 1930 Târgu Bujor had about 4,000 inhabitants, including about 150 Jews .
traffic
Târgu Bujor is on the railway line from Galați to Bârlad . In both directions there are currently (2009) around three trains a day. There are also regular buses to Galați.
