Caraș-Severin County
Caraș-Severin [ ˈkaraʃ seveˈrin ] ( ) is a Romanian district (Județ) in the Banat with the district town of Reșița ( German Reschitza , Hungarian Resicabánya ). Its common abbreviation and license plate are CS.
The county Caras-Severin in the southwest area of Romania, bordered to the north and west to the Timiş County , in the northeast and east of the Hunedoara county , further to the east by the Gorj county , in the south-east and in the south of the county Mehedinti , further in the south and west to the Republic of Serbia .
Demographics
In 2002 Caraș-Severin had 333,396 inhabitants and a population density of 39 inhabitants per km². In 2011 the Caraș-Severin district had 295,579 inhabitants. This corresponds to a population density of 35 inhabitants per km².

The district has a total area of 8520 km² - making it the third largest of the 41 districts - this corresponds to 3.57% of the area of Romania. In the north of the Caraș-Severin district lies the Poiana-Ruscă Mountains , further south the Banat Mountains , in the east the Țarcu Mountains (Munții Țarcu) , in the west the Banat Mountains and in the south it borders on the Danube .
