history
The first documentary mention dates back to 1447, when Johann Hunyadi made a donation from the village of Thereguba from the Mehadia district to the Temesely family. In the historical documents of the 17th-18th centuries In the 19th century, the spellings Terregova and Teregova appeared. According to some scientists, the name of the place goes back to the Latin "terre" (earth) and the Slavonian "gova" (poor). Over the centuries, the village was owned by several noble Banat families.
In the period 1690–1700 Teregova belonged to the Caransebeş district and came under Turkish rule from 1658–1688 . On the Josephine land survey of 1717 the place is registered with 70 houses. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) the village was part of the Habsburg crown domain Temescher Banat . In 1775 Teregova became the seat of the 9th Company of the Wallachian-Illyrian Border Infantry Regiment No. 13 of the Banat Military Border , to which five villages with 779 people belonged. In the Russo-Austrian Turkish War (1787-1792) the village was completely destroyed. From 1873 to 1918 Teregova was part of the Kingdom of Hungary .
The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three , whereby Teregova fell to the Kingdom of Romania . In the interwar period, Teregova was the seat of a chair and belonged to the Severin district.
