history

The first written mention of Tople comes from Frigyes Pesty in 1436 . The name Toplec comes from Slavic and means warm .

On the Josephine land survey of 1717 the place Dopliz is registered. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) the village was part of the Habsburg crown domain Temescher Banat .

In 1768 the "Wallachian Battalion" of the Banat military border was set up. It had four companies and 2,383 border guards in Topleț, Globurău , Ilova and Ohaba-Bistra, now part of Oțelu Roșu . In 1775 the "Wallachian Battalion" was combined with the "Illyrian Regiment" to form the "Wallachian-Illyrian Regiment".

As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The official place name was Toplecz . 1908 Csernahévíz becomes the official name.

The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts , whereby Topleț fell to the Kingdom of Romania .

Banat Sfinx

The Banat Sphinx , also called the Sfinx of Topleț , is a megalith in the Cernatal , on the area of the municipality of Topleț. The 16 meter high and 8 meter wide boulder was created over time by wind and water erosion . It owes its name to the resemblance to a human head.
