history

Over the centuries, different spellings of the place name appeared: 1577 Brebul , 1585 Prebul , 1808 Prebul , 1913 Perlő , 1919 Brebul , Prebul , Brebu .

A first documentary mention comes from the year 1577. On the Josephine land survey of 1717 Prebul is registered with 80 houses and belongs to the district Caransebeş. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) the village was part of the Habsburg crown domain Temescher Banat .

As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The official place name was Perlő .

The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts , whereby Brebu fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
