history
The name of the village has changed several times over the years: from Lunca in Luncava and then in Luncavița , during the Hungarian period first Kyslukavicza and then Nagylankás . The name comes from the Slavonian Lunca .
We find the first written mention of Lunkawicza in Frigyes Pesty , in his book "The History of the Severin Banat" ("Istoria Banatului de Severin") from 1478.
In 1539 Mihaly Tornyey was the landowner of the estate. The place Lungawitza is entered on the Josephine land survey of 1717 . After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) the village was part of the Habsburg crown domain Temescher Banat . During the Banat Military Frontier the village belonged to the Companie Teregova .
As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The official place name was Nagylankás .
The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the triple division of the Banat , which Luncavița fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
